PSG 2026-27: what is at stake in a season for the history books
Two-time European champions with a rebuilt attack chase a hat-trick only Real Madrid have managed. Squad, fixtures and the big questions of PSG's season.
The last club to win three Champions Leagues in a row was Real Madrid, from 2016 to 2018. PSG won in Munich in 2025 and in Budapest on 30 May 2026 against Arsenal (1-1, 4-3 on penalties), and can match them this season. But the summer reshaped the attack, and the Ligue 1 campaign started slowly. Here is where Paris stand in mid-October, and what lies ahead.
A transfer window that redrew the attack
Luis Enrique, under contract until 2027, lost several attacking players. Bradley Barcola joined Liverpool, Gonçalo Ramos went to AC Milan (around €75m), Ibrahim Mbaye moved to Aston Villa, and Randal Kolo Muani and Lee Kang-in also left.
Five players came in:
- Maghnes Akliouche, from Monaco for €50m: a creative, French-trained attacking midfielder;
- Ferran Torres, from FC Barcelona, a Spain international who can play anywhere across the front line;
- Mika Godts, a Belgian winger who made his name at Ajax;
- Lucas Digne, an experienced left-back from Aston Villa;
- Alessandro Longoni, a goalkeeper signed on a free from AC Milan.
The core of the side is unchanged: Vitinha, João Neves, Fabian Ruiz and Warren Zaïre-Emery are all still there, behind an Ousmane Dembélé who remains as decisive as ever. The club chose continuity: new finishers, same system.
Ligue 1: a sluggish start, then a response
The opening weeks were a reminder that titles are not won on reputation. After losing the Trophée des Champions to Lens (0-1) and winning the UEFA Super Cup against Aston Villa (2-1), Paris drew 2-2 at Rennes and again at Lille, then lost at home to Monaco (1-2). Three wins followed: at Brest (1-0), against Marseille at the Vélodrome (2-1) and against Le Mans (3-1).
After six rounds PSG are 6th on 11 points, three behind leaders Monaco. No cause for alarm yet, but there is little room left for further slips. You can follow the live Ligue 1 table on our site.
Champions League: a tricky draw
The league phase began with a 6-1 win over Slovan Bratislava on 9 September (a Dembélé double and a Ferran Torres hat-trick). The draw was not kind to the holders, though: Barcelona, Manchester City, Roma and Aston Villa are all on the list. Only the top eight in the 36-team table go straight into the round of 16, while teams from 9th to 24th go into the play-offs. The remaining seven games:
- 14 October: Manchester City v PSG (Etihad Stadium)
- 20 October: PSG v FC Barcelona (Parc des Princes)
- 3 November: Villarreal v PSG (Estadio de la Cerámica)
- 25 November: PSG v AS Roma (Parc des Princes)
- 8 December: Aston Villa v PSG (Villa Park)
- 20 January 2027: Como v PSG (Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia)
- 27 January 2027: PSG v Galatasaray (Parc des Princes)
The week from 14 to 20 October, away at Manchester City and then Barcelona at home, will say a lot about whether this rebuilt PSG can live with the best.
Three questions for the season
- Will the new-look attack last the distance? Ferran Torres has settled quickly. The question is whether Akliouche and Godts can deliver in the big games, where Barcola and Ramos used to stretch defences.
- Will the legs hold up? Ligue 1, the Champions League, the Coupe de France and the Intercontinental Cup final on 16 December 2026 make for a packed schedule until the winter break. Squad rotation will be decisive.
- Can Paris take back control of Ligue 1? The champions dropped points early. Lyon at the Parc on 25 October and the trip to Lens on 3 January will be the real tests.
Dates for the diary until the winter break
- Saturday 17 October: Strasbourg v PSG (Ligue 1, round 7)
- Sunday 25 October: PSG v Lyon (Ligue 1, round 8)
- Saturday 7 November: PSG v Troyes (Ligue 1, round 10)
- Saturday 28 November: PSG v Lorient (Ligue 1, round 12)
- Wednesday 16 December: Intercontinental Cup final
- Sunday 3 January 2027: Lens v PSG (Ligue 1, round 15)
Ligue 1 dates can still move: the league sets final days and kick-off times a few weeks ahead, around the European fixtures.
